West End on Film

Last time we spoke to Richard IV, our resident London Walks movie expert, we were trying to pin him down to pick just one film as his all-time favourite London Movie.

“Impossible!” he replied, and went on to list a screed of unmissable London classics. Here’s just one of them…

Melody (1971). This joyous and anarchic celebration of love and rebellion stars Mark Lester and Jack Wild (Oliver Twist and the Artful Didger from Oliver!). London has changed a lot in the 40 years since this was made. Hidden cameras and a lot of nerve give the Soho and Trafalgar Square scenes a very special energy.”
