The London Reading List No. 28

Tuesday is great London books day on The Daily Constitutional. Give us your own recommendations at the usual email address

Something of a Russian Doll in this week’s installment – a map to lead you to 87 great London bookshops where you can browse for the 27 titles featured previously in our London Reading List.

The London Bookshop Map is a not for profit publishing project funded by donations from participating bookshops. Of the 87 shops listed on the map – a thing of beauty in itself designed by Ray O’Meara and Luke Gold – we can particularly recommend the following three from our own personal experience:

Black Gull Books

Enlivening East Finchley’s High Road with an often seditious countercultural window display. Great stock (a particularly good London section), nice folks.

The Dover Bookshop

The copyright free image bookshop at Seven Dials is a cornucopia of weird and wonderful gifts from paisley patterns to paper dolls. www.doverbooks.co.uk

Rare and first edition childrens’ books in Cecil Court. www.marchpane.com.

We picked up our copy of the map at the Dover bookshop – but we're sure if you ask your local independent bookshop for a copy, they'll be able to oblige.
