We've canvassed the London Walks guides, asking them to nominate their desert island museum and we'll be posting their responses throughout the month.
As usual, you are more than welcome to join in! Get in touch via Facebook, or Twitter or via the usual email address.
Here's London Walks guide and Daily
Constitutional Associate Editor Kim with her Desert Island Museum…
Love the idea of Desert Island Museums but what a difficult choice. Firstly, there are so many fantastic ones in London and secondly, it's impossible to see them all so I'm constantly learning something new.
After due
deliberation, however, I'm going to pick Dr Johnson's House in Gough
Square.
An absolute jewel of a
building that I'd love to actually live in – would I be allowed that as a bonus
on my island?
A fascinating
character who was irascible, funny and supported talented women (unusual in his
day and age) and lots of things in the house to support this. BUT.… and this is the best thing…there's
a First Edition of the Dictionary which he published so I'll never run out of
reading material and I'll come back from my island to bamboozle the lot of you
with my erudition.
If you want to find
out more you need Secret London on Tuesday morning at 10.45 starting at Chancery Lane.
You'll see the house from outside, meet Hodge, "a very fine cat,
indeed", and end near to the Cheshire Cheese pub that holds his bowl and
chair. So a good lunch and you're
on the doorstep for a fascinating afternoon visit to the house itself.
