Artist Walter Crane in Kensington…
Artist and book illustrator, Walter Crane was part of the Arts and Crafts movement and produced a wide variety of paintings, illustrations, children's books and ceramics.
The founding principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, a global school of art that flourished from the 1880’s to the immediate pre-WWI period, favoured a strong back-to-basics approach in terms of influence (they were often inspired by mediaeval decorative work) and use of traditional materials. Its influence stretched into the fields of architecture, domestic design and the decorative arts.
