Mary writes… Huge thanks to MaryMary27, a London Walker from Scarborough for yet another five-star review!
I have been wanting to go on this walk for
a long time, and at last managed to find a date and time that worked for me.
The walk was due to meet at Mansion House tube station, however I found out
that this station would be closed on the day of the walk. I emailed London
Walks querying the meeting place, and received a very quick reply.
The leader, Fiona, was excellent. First we
walked to the river, Fiona giving information about the Thames and London. It
was quite difficult to hear sometimes because of traffic noise, boat engines,
even a helicopter which seemed to be hovering directly overhead. Not Fiona's
fault! So probably not suitable for those with hearing problems.
We were not permitted to dig or even scuff
the sediments with our feet, just pick up from the surface. Were given plastic
gloves and told about health and safety. People found a lot of things, Fiona
happy to talk about everyone's finds. At the end we were asked to just take
away 3 or 4 items, to avoid depleting the area.
A great walk.
