Every Sunday we’ll pluck just one walk from the vast
London Walks repertoire and put it centre
stage.
But if
you only take one walking tour this week, why not make it…
Urban Geology in Trafalgar Square &
St. Martin's Lane
Leicester Square Tube, exit 1
Saturday 29th April at 2.30pm
Saturday 29th April at 2.30pm
The centre of London showcases a history
of iconic British stones from Cornish Granite via Portland Stone to Edinburgh’s
Craigleith Sandstone. Come and find out more about how stone quarrying
influenced 19th Century architecture and vice versa in the walk down St
Martin’s Lane and Trafalgar Square. Guided by University College London
Geologist Ruth. (It all comes down to the guiding.) N.B. The walk takes about
two hours and will end at Charing Cross Station.
To go on the Urban Geology in Trafalgar
Square & St. Martin's Lane walk meet Ruth at 2.30 pm on Saturday, April 29.
The meeting point is just outside exit 1 of Leicester Square Tube (by Wyndham's
Theatre).
A London Walk costs £10 – £8 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
