Star London Walks guide & Daily Constitutional Associate Editor Richard III writes from The Little Venice Walk…
Last week this was a
blue plaque…
This week Alan Turing
has a rainbow plaque.
Turing has been in the
News partly because Benedict Cumberbatch played him in The Imitation Game and
because he has been offered a posthumous apology by the Government for the way he was
treated.
Turing's work during
WWII at Bletchley Park saved millions of lives – it allowed the allies to crack
the code the Nazis used to send messages.
Despite this, he was
arrested.
As a gay man he did
not seek to hide his sexuality.
He was chemically
castrated.
So now, he has a
rainbow plaque.
DC Editor Adam writes…
Thanks Richard! We'll be looking at the rainbow plaques again on Monday.
